History
The inaugural Romanian Philatelic Exhibition (EFIRO 1932) was held in 1932 at the Palace of the Romanian Academy Foundation in Bucharest (today known as Dalles Hall), under the reign of King Carol II. From November 23 to November 30, the biggest philatelic show to date was held.
The exhibition's tradition began with its 1998 second EFIRO edition, which took place at the Parliament Palace. In 2004, philatelists from all over the world came to the National Philatelic Exhibition, the third EFIRO event. It took place at the 23rd Congress of the Universal Postal Union in Bucharest. The 4th World Philatelic Exhibition, or EFIRO 2008, which was held in Romexpo Bucharest, received strong support from the Romanian Presidency, the International Association of Philatelic Journalists (AIJP), and the International Philatelic Federation (FIP).
On this particular occasion, the "Bull's Head," the first postal stamps ever printed in Romania, were celebrating their 150th anniversary. Ever since, EFIRO has taken place in Bucharest roughly every four to five years.
