Tags: is excited to introduce to our readers` attention a new set of four stamps by Singapore Post to commemorate the historical sights of Arab Street and Kampong Glam. The stamps are illustrated with past and present scenes of shophouses in Arab Street and the Sultan Mosque in Kampong Glam. We also invite you to appreciate beautiful stamp issues featuring some famous streets from around the world.

Arab Street and the Kampong Glam area form one of Singapore’s cultural enclaves. Kampong Glam is the area that still has that special atmosphere with modern touches such as the famous graffiti walls. Kampong Glam is also known as Singapore’s Muslim Quarter, due to its history, and to the presence of the graceful Sultan Mosque – one of the area’s landmarks.

Arab Street is famous with fabric shops and fashion-forward boutiques. You’ll also find delightful cafés, where you can sit down to enjoy a true Arab coffee and a Shish’a – a traditional oriental tobacco pipe. Here you may also find a great range of bakeries, handicraft shops, bistros and jazz clubs. It is definitely worth savoring the sights and sounds of this exotic and intriguing neighbourhood.

"Amid Singapore’s rapid development, the areas around Arab Street and Kampong Glam form one of the nation’s major cultural enclaves, retaining a rich cultural heritage and strong ties to the Malay-Muslim community," SingPost said in a press release.
