Croatian Post (HP) Mostar introduced a beautiful stamp on the theme „Myths and flora 2021“. The item designed by Milana Nižić features the Goddess Lada, the old Slavic goddess of love and marriage, and the peony. Lada is praised for her beauty and attractiveness and is often depicted as a beautiful Slavic woman with long golden hair braided with wheat.
Divine Lada is always radiant, cheerful, kind. For tenderness and solicitude, kindness and calmness, Slavic men called their wives with the name of the goddess. According to legends, people turned to the Goddess Lada to beg for rain for the thirsty land and encourage the growth of plants. As gratitude, they brought her flowers, various fruits, white birds (swans), and sang songs. She reigns in the summer, in the period of fertility when nature grows and flourishes. Such phenomena as the sun, warm nights, and rain are assigned to Lada, while her plants are cherry, linden, dandelion, and peony.
