Old and new bridges combined in one stamp issue. Two spectacular Europa stamps presented by Swiss Post
All stamp collectors know that PostEurop, the Association of European Public Postal Operators, has run a competition to find the best EUROPA stamp design every year since 2002. Over 11,000 people vote for the best stamp of the year during the competition, which has been held online for several years. Each year the theme for this philatelic contest is different. This time all the stamps are devoted to majestic bridges.
FindYourStampsValue.com is glad to present this spectacular stamp issue by Swiss Post that will take part in Europa 2018 competition. The theme of this year is well suited to Switzerland as this country is rich on different types of bridges that are particular historical and scenic. Whereas bridges made of wood and later iron were predominant in the past, most modern bridges are constructed of concrete.
The two Swiss EUROPA stamps combine old and new. The first stamp features the Spreuer Bridge, which was built in Lucerne in the 13th century and is the oldest surviving wooden bridge in Europe following the Chapel Bridge fire. The second item shows the Trift Bridge that is one of the longest and highest pedestrian-only suspension bridges in the Alps. At 100 metres high and 170 metres long, it is recommended only for those with a head for heights!
