Real graffiti will appear on Finland post stamps

FindYourStampsValue.com is excited to let you know that Posti is to issue stamps to feature real graffiti. The artworks that are depicted on the items were created by EGS who is one of the internationally best known graffiti artists in Finland. Nowadays, EGS’s graffiti can be found in more than 50 countries around the world. In 2018 he got Posti Ltd's art promotion award of 2018. The award includes monetary prize and this bright stamp publication of the artist’s work.

So, the first stamp features the reddish graffiti created by EGS in cooperation with local painters in a industrial area in Melbourne, Australia, in 2015.  The other item illustrates letters E, G and S that form the map of the world painted on the side of a small truck in St. Petersburg.

“We are looking for new talents from outside the stamp design world. EGS is an interesting artist who breaks down traditional art barriers with his graffiti. Visually, graffiti suits stamps very well,” said Posti’s Art Committee Chairman Tommi Kantola.

Aside from being great recognition for the graffiti movement, the connection of post and graffiti writers has a long history, which the artist explained. “I had tons of pen pals all around the world and we exchanged photos of graffiti. After the graffiti stamps have been published in September, I will send a bundle of photos to my old colleagues around the world using first day covers and the stamp that I have designed. I’m really looking forward to it.”

We encourage you to take a look at other bright stamp issues dedicated to graffiti art.
