Spring Holiday in Germany stamp

Spring Holiday in Germany stamp

The theme of the current issue is "Holiday in Germany". This is a traditional seasonal subject of the stamp issue related to the school holidays.

German children enjoy holidays since the compulsory education is introduced in Germany, about 200 years ago. In that time the school-free time was limited almost entirely by the religious feasts and Sundays. Later came the days or weeks, when education was interrupted because of fairs or exhibitions in school. And occasionally there were hot summer days without studies. On the demand of doctors worried about children health a controlled summer vacation of at least six weeks was introduced 100 years ago. Finally the agreement was adopted about the duration of the school year, compulsory education and the holidays.

The spring holidays and Easter holidays in Germany last for two weeks, depending on the province.
