World day of the sick is celebrated on February 11. The observation started by Pope John Paul II in 1992 as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses. The Pope himself had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s a year before, in 1991, and it is considered that his own illness was the reason for his designation of the day. On this day people also celebrate and commemorate Our Lady of Lourdes - the guardian of the sick.
On World day of the sick people around the world pray for the sick and for those who work very hard to relieve the sufferings of the sick on this day. And the religious organizations also mark this day by providing the sick with medicines, food, and spiritual guidance.
