FindYourStampsValue.com is delighted to share the latest auction news with our reader’s attention. This piece of info concerns one of the greatest Western Australian rarities - 1879 2p Lilac Error of Color that will be auctioned by Spink during its auction on April 30-May 1 of worldwide classics. This is an enormously scarce and attractive variety, one of the premier exhibition pieces of Australian States philately.

1879 2p Lilac is an extraordinary rare error of color that is seldom offered in such a fine condition. This stamp is considered to be one of the most desirable errors and one of the rarest errors of the Australian States that is often missing in even the most advanced British Commonwealth collections, not to mention it being a key stamp for the topical bird collector.

The lot offered by Spink is described as “an outstanding example featuring delicate pastel shade, very well centered displaying balanced margins all around, unused without gum”. Scott describes the color variety as lilac; the normal issued stamp is yellow. The stamp is to fetch $20,000.
