La Poste issued a collector's set of 4 stamps bearing the effigy of Missak Manouchian, hero of the French resistance, on the occasion of his entry into the Pantheon. He was a prominent Armenian-French resistance fighter during World War II. Born in 1906 in Ottoman Turkey, he fled to France to escape persecution. Manouchian became a leader in the Manouchian Group, a network of anti-Nazi partisans composed mainly of immigrant workers.
He was captured and executed by the Nazis in 1944, becoming a symbol of heroism and sacrifice. His legacy continues to inspire many for his brave stand against oppression and tyranny.
